XIV. The
Abomination of Desolation, prophesied by Daniel & given by Jesus as the
important
sign for the remnant to flee out of Jerusalem & Judaea, must be yet in
the future to be fulfilled.
Daniel 9:27 And he shall confirm the covenant with many for one week: and in the midst
of the week he shall cause the sacrifice and the oblation to cease, and for
the overspreading of abominations he shall make it desolate, even
until the consummation, and that determined shall be poured upon the
desolate.
(KJV)
Daniel 11:31 And arms shall stand on his part, and they shall pollute the sanctuary of
strength, and shall take away the daily sacrifice, and they shall place the
abomination that maketh desolate.
Daniel 11:36-39 And the king shall do according to his will; and he shall exalt himself, and
magnify himself above every god, and shall speak marvellous things
against the God of gods, and shall prosper till the indignation be
accomplished: for that that is determined shall be done. 37Neither
shall he regard the God of his fathers, nor the desire of women, nor regard
any god: for he shall magnify himself above all. 38But in his
estate shall he honour the God of forces: and a god whom his fathers
knew not shall he honour with gold, and silver, and with precious stones,
and pleasant things. 39Thus shall he do in the most strong holds
with a strange god, whom he shall acknowledge and increase with
glory: and he shall cause them to rule over many, and shall divide the land
for gain. (KJV)
Daniel 12:11-12
And from the time that the daily sacrifice
shall be taken away, and the abomination that maketh desolate set
up, there shall be a thousand two hundred and ninety days. 12Blessed
is he that waiteth, and cometh to the thousand three hundred and five and
thirty days.
Matthew 24:13-21
But he that shall endure unto the
END,
the same shall be saved. 14And this gospel of the kingdom shall
be preached in all the world for a witness unto all nations; and then shall
the
end come. 15When ye therefore shall see the abomination of
desolation, spoken of by Daniel the prophet, stand in the holy place,
(whoso readeth, let him understand:) 16Then let them which be in
Judaea flee into the mountains: 17Let him which is on the
housetop not come down to take any thing out of his house: 18Neither
let him which is in the field return back to take his clothes. 19And
woe unto them that are with child, and to them that give suck in those days!
20But pray ye that your flight be not in the winter, neither on
the sabbath day: 21For then shall be great tribulation,
such as was not since the beginning of the world to this time, no, nor ever
shall be. (KJV)
See Mark 13:11-22.
2 Thessalonians 2:1-4
Now we beseech you, brethren, by
THE coming
of our Lord Jesus Christ, and by our gathering together
unto him, 2That ye be not soon shaken in mind, or be troubled,
neither by spirit, nor by word, nor by letter as from us, as that the day of
Christ is at hand. 3Let no man deceive you by any means:
for that day shall not come, except there come a falling away first,
and that man of sin be revealed, the son of perdition; 4Who
opposeth and exalteth himself above all that is called God, or that is
worshipped; so that he as God sitteth in the temple of God, shewing
himself that he is God. (KJV)
Revelation 13:14-18
And deceiveth them that dwell on the
earth by the means of those miracles which he had power to do in the sight
of the beast; saying to them that dwell on the earth, that they should make
an
image to the beast, which had the wound by a sword, and did live. 15And
he had power to give life unto the image of the beast, that the image
of the beast should both speak, and cause that as many as would not worship
the
image of the beast should be killed. 16And he causeth
ALL,
both small and great, rich and poor, free and bond, to receive a mark in
their right hand, or in their foreheads: 17And that no man might
buy or sell, save he that had the mark, or the name of the beast, or the
number of his name. 18Here is wisdom. Let him that hath
understanding count the number of the beast: for it is the number of a man;
and his number is Six hundred threescore and six. (KJV)
- The definition & uses of the term, "abomination,"
(s).
- The Hebrew word used in Daniel = shiqquta {shik-koots’}
= disgusting; filthy; idolatrous. = a detestable (thing); an idol.
- The Greek word used by Jesus = bdelugma {bdel’-oog-nah}
= a detestation; espc. an idol.
- There are other Hebrew words used in "The Books of the Law"
that define the filth & sexual perversions found in the land of
Canaan & among the other six tribes in the land.
Leviticus 18:24-30
Defile not ye yourselves in any of these
things: for in all these the nations are
defiled which I cast out before you: 25And the land is defiled:
therefore I do visit the iniquity thereof upon it, and the land itself
vomiteth out her inhabitants. 26Ye shall therefore keep my
statutes and my judgments, and shall not commit any of these
abominations; neither any of your own nation, nor any stranger that
sojourneth among you: 27(For all these abominations have
the men of the land done, which were before you, and the land is defiled;)
28That the land spue not you out also, when ye defile it,
as it spued out the nations that were before you. 29For whosoever
shall commit any of these abominations, even the souls that commit
them shall be cut off from among their people. 30Therefore
shall ye keep mine ordinance, that ye commit not any one of these abominable
customs, which were committed before you, and that ye defile not
yourselves therein: I am the LORD your God. (KJV)
- These "abominations"
included all kinds of sexual perversions & idolatry. These sexual
perversions were a part of the worship of certain idols; they even
"defiled the land." See Lev. 18:1-30; Lev.
18:25; transsexuals - Deut.22:5
Concerning the "New Jerusalem," --
Revelation 21:27
And there shall in no wise enter into it any
thing that defileth, neither whatsoever worketh abomination,
or maketh a lie: but they which are written in the Lamb's book of life. (KJV)
Revelation 22:14-15
Blessed are they that do his commandments,
that they may have right to the tree of life, and may enter in through the
gates into the city. 15For without are dogs, and sorcerers,
and whoremongers, and murderers, and idolaters, and whosoever loveth and
maketh a lie. (KJV)
Ephesians 5:5-7
For this ye know, that no whoremonger, nor
unclean person, nor covetous man, who is an idolater, hath any inheritance in
the kingdom of Christ and of God. 6Let no man deceive you with vain
words: for because of these things cometh the wrath of God upon the
children of disobedience. 7Be not ye therefore partakers with them.
(KJV)
- The abomination spoken of by Daniel & Jesus, will bring about "desolation."
- "desolation"
= eremosis {er-ay’-mo-sis}
= from a word meaning to lay
waste; to ruin; to make desolate; strip of treasures. Come to naught.
- "desolation"
(Dan.8:13) = shamem {shaw-mame’}
= Qal stem = to be
desolated; deserted; To be deflowered; be appalled’ stun; stupefy.
- Consider these prophetic words:
Isaiah 6:8-12
Also I heard the voice of the Lord,
saying, Whom shall I send, and who will go for us? Then said I, Here am I;
send me. 9And he said,
Go, and tell this
people, Hear ye indeed, but understand not; and see ye indeed, but
perceive not. 10Make the heart of this people fat, and make
their ears heavy, and shut their eyes; lest they see with their
eyes, and hear with their ears, and understand with their heart, and
convert, and be healed. 11Then said I, Lord, how
long? And he answered, Until the cities be wasted without inhabitant,
and the houses without man, and the land be utterly
desolate,
12And the LORD have removed men far away, and there be a
great forsaking in the midst of the land. (KJV)
Matthew 23:37-39
O Jerusalem, Jerusalem, thou that killest
the prophets, and stonest them which are sent unto thee, how often would I
have gathered thy children together, even as a hen gathereth her chickens
under her wings, and ye would not! 38Behold, your house is
left unto you desolate. 39For I say unto you, Ye shall not see me henceforth, till
ye shall say, Blessed is he that cometh in the name of the Lord.
(KJV)
Romans 9:27-29
Esaias also crieth concerning Israel,
Though the number of the children of Israel be as the sand of the sea, a
remnant shall be saved: 28For he will finish the work, and cut
it short in righteousness: because a short work will the Lord make upon
the earth. 29And as Esaias said before, Except the Lord of
Sabaoth had left us a seed, we had been as Sodoma, and been made like
unto Gomorrha. (KJV)
- "even unto the consummation,"
= kalah {kaw-law’} = complete destruction; the full end;
completion; consumption; annihilation; termination.
Daniel 9:27
And he shall confirm the covenant with
many for one week: and in the midst of the week he shall cause the
sacrifice and the oblation to cease, and for the overspreading
of
abominations he shall make it desolate, even
until the consummation, and that determined shall be poured
upon the desolate. (KJV)
NOTE these other translations:
TEV = The Awful Horror will be placed on the highest point of the Temple and
will remain there until the one who put it there meets the end which God
has prepared for him.
LB = then, as a climax to all his terrible deeds, the Enemy shall utterly
defile the sanctuary of God. But in God’s time and plan, his judgment
will be poured out upon this Evil One.
Septg. = and on the temple shall be the abomination of desolations; and at the end
of the time an end shall be put to the desolation.)
Consider--
2 Thessalonians 2:4-8
Who opposeth and exalteth himself above
all that is called God, or that is worshipped; so that he as God sitteth
in the temple of God, shewing himself that he is God. 5Remember
ye not, that, when I was yet with you, I told you these things? 6And
now ye know what withholdeth that he might be revealed in his time. 7For
the mystery of iniquity doth already work: only he who now letteth will
let, until he be taken out of the way. 8And then shall that
Wicked be revealed, whom the Lord shall consume with the spirit of his
mouth, and shall destroy with the brightness of his coming: (KJV)
Ezekiel 21:25-27 25
And thou, profane wicked prince of
Israel, whose day is come, when iniquity shall have an end, 26Thus
saith the Lord GOD; Remove the diadem, and take off the crown: this shall
not be the same: exalt him that is low, and abase him that is high. 27I
will overturn, overturn, overturn, it: and it shall be no more, until
he come whose right it is; and I will give it him. (KJV)
- "overspreading,"
= kanaph {kaw-nawf’}
= extremity; edge; ends; wing.
This "overspreading of abominations," means the abomination that
has reached the ultimate, and probably refers to the event coming
in the future when the "Man of sin-lawlessness, world ruler"
will have an IMAGE (idol) of himself made and will set it in the temple of
God to be worshipped. This could be a ROBOT with a computer intelligence,
exercising "executive orders."
Revelation 13:15-18
And he had power to give life unto the
image of the beast, that the image of the beast should both speak,
and cause that as many as would not worship the image of the beast
should be killed. 16And he causeth all, both small and great,
rich and poor, free and bond, to receive a mark in their right hand, or in
their foreheads: 17And that no man might buy or sell, save he
that had the mark, or the name of the beast, or the number of his name.
18Here
is wisdom. Let him that hath understanding count the number of the beast:
for it is the number of a man; and his number is Six hundred threescore
and six. (KJV)
2 Thessalonians 2:1-4
Now we beseech you, brethren,
by the
coming of our Lord Jesus Christ, and by our gathering together
unto him, 2That ye be not soon shaken in mind, or be troubled,
neither by spirit, nor by word, nor by letter as from us, as that the day
of Christ is at hand. 3Let no man deceive you by any means: for
that day shall not
come, except there come a falling away FIRST, and
(secondly) that man of sin be revealed, the son of perdition; 4Who
opposeth and exalteth himself above all that is called God, or that is
worshipped; so that he as God sitteth in the temple of God, shewing
himself that he is God. (KJV)
(This must be the extremity spoken of).
