VI. Some of the things Satan is recorded
as doing.

Caused murder & war.
Job 1:14-15
And there came a messenger unto Job, and said, The oxen were
plowing, and the asses feeding beside them: 15And the Sabeans
fell [upon them], and took them away; yea, they have slain the servants
with the edge of the sword; and I only am escaped alone to tell thee. (KJV)

Used lightning
to burn up man & beast.
Job 1:16
While he [was] yet speaking, there came also another, and
said, The fire of God is fallen from heaven, and hath burned up the
sheep, and the servants, and consumed them; and I only am escaped
alone to tell thee. (KJV)

| 3. |
Caused men to steal
& murder.
Job 1:17
While he [was] yet speaking, there came also another, and
said, The Chaldeans made out three bands, and fell upon the camels,
and have carried them away, yea, and slain the servants with the
edge of the sword; and I only am escaped alone to tell thee. (KJV)

Used the wind &
storms to kill Job's children.
Job 1:18-19
While he [was] yet speaking, there came also another, and
said, Thy sons and thy daughters [were] eating and drinking wine in
their eldest brother's house: 19And, behold, there came a
great wind from the wilderness, and smote the four corners of the
house, and it fell upon the young men, and they are dead; and I only
am escaped alone to tell thee. (KJV)

Caused the worse of
diseases to come upon Job.
Job 2:7
So went Satan forth from the presence of the LORD, and
smote Job with sore
boils from the sole of his
foot unto his crown.
boils = shekh-een') = an ulcerated, burning, inflamatory
condition of the skin covering the body. |
| 6. |
Moved Job's wife
to be pitted against him, provoking him to
curse God.
Job 2:9
Then said his wife unto him, Dost thou still retain thine
integrity? curse God, and die. (KJV)

| 7. |
Brought three "friends," & a young "onlooker"
to vex his mind.
Job 2:11
Now when Job's three friends heard of all this evil that
was come upon him, they came every one from his own place;
Eliphaz the Temanite, and
Bildad the Shuhite, and
Zophar the Naamathite: for they had
made an appointment together to come to mourn with him and to
comfort him. (KJV)
Job 32:1-4
So these three men ceased to answer Job, because he [was]
righteous in his own eyes. 2Then was kindled the wrath of
Elihu the son of Barachel the
Buzite, of the kindred of Ram: against Job was his wrath kindled,
because he justified himself rather than God. 3Also
against his three friends was his wrath kindled, because they had
found no answer, and [yet] had condemned Job. 4Now Elihu
had waited till Job had spoken, because they [were] elder than he.

Used Job's mind &
memory to look back over his life and curse his day.
Job 3:1-3
After this opened Job his mouth, and cursed his day. 2And
Job spake, and said, 3Let the day perish wherein I was
born, and the night [in which] it was said, There is a man child

Satan provoked David to
number Israel, putting his trust for
victory over his enemies in his mighty army instead of Jehovah God.
1 Chronicles 21:1
And Satan stood up against Israel, and provoked David to
number Israel...........
1 Chronicles 21:6-7
But Levi and Benjamin counted he not among them: for the
king's word was abominable to Joab.
7And God was displeased
with this thing; therefore he smote Israel. (KJV)

Satan has been given the
authority over the world system
to use as he desires to, enriching those who will bow down and serve
him.
Luke 4:5-7
And the devil, taking him up into an high mountain, shewed
unto him all the kingdoms of the world
in a moment of time. 6 And the devil said unto him, All this power
will I give thee, and the glory of them:
for that is delivered
unto me; and to whomsoever I will I give it.
7If thou therefore wilt worship me, all shall be thine.
delivered = paradidomi
{par-ad-id'-o-mee} comes from 2 words that = to surrender; to yield
up; transmit; give over. |

Satan has the authority to
afflict & destroy the flesh of the body.
1 Corinthians 5:4-5
In the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, when ye are gathered
together, and my spirit, with the power of our Lord Jesus Christ,
5To deliver such an one
unto Satan for the
destruction of
the flesh, that the spirit may be saved in the day of the
Lord Jesus.
destruction = olethros
{ol'-eth-ros} = ruin,to destroy, cause death, punishment. {see, 1 Tim.
1:20}
Luke 13:16
And ought not this woman, being a daughter of Abraham, whom
Satan hath bound, lo, these eighteen years,
be loosed from this bond on the sabbath day? (KJV)

Satan uses man's mouth to speak his words.
Mark 8:31-33
And he began to teach them, that the Son of man must suffer
many things, and be rejected of the elders, and [of] the chief
priests, and scribes, and be killed, and after three days rise
again. 32And he spake that saying openly. And
Peter took him, and began to rebuke him.
33But when he had turned about and looked on his disciples,
he rebuked Peter, saying, Get thee behind me, Satan: for
thou savourest not the things that be of God, but the things that be
of men. (KJV)

Satan is allowed to sift
God's servants.
Luke 22:31-32
And the Lord said, Simon, Simon, behold, Satan hath desired
[to have] you, that he may sift
[you] as wheat: 32But I have prayed for thee, that thy
faith fail not: and when thou art converted, strengthen thy
brethren. (KJV)
sift = (only use in
Bible) = siniazo {sin-ee-ad'-zo) = to riddle; to shake
in a sieve; = by inward agitation to try one's faith to the verge of
overthrow. |

As a deceiver,
satan transforms himself as an "angel of light."
2 Corinthians 11:13-15
For such [are] false apostles, deceitful workers,
transforming themselves into the apostles of
Christ. 14And no
marvel; for Satan himself is transformed into an angel of light.
15Therefore [it is] no great thing if his ministers also be
transformed as the ministers of righteousness; whose end shall be
according to their works. (KJV)
Matthew 7:22-23
Many will say to me in that day, Lord, Lord, have we not
prophesied in thy name? and in thy name have cast out devils? and in
thy name done many wonderful works? 23And then will I
profess unto them, I never knew you: depart from me, ye that work
iniquity. (KJV)

Satan sows tares
(hypocrites) in the local church congregations.
Matthew 13:38-39
The field is the world; the good seed are the children of
the kingdom; but the tares are the children
of the wicked [one]; 39The
enemy that sowed them is the devil; the harvest is the
end of the world; and the reapers are the angels. (KJV)

Satan removes the
conviction brought about by the hearing of the Word.
Matthew 13:19
When any one heareth the word of the kingdom, and
understandeth [it] not, then cometh the
wicked [one], and catcheth away that which was sown in his heart.
This is he which received seed by the way side.

Satan blinds
the mind to keep the unsaved from believing the truth.
2 Corinthians 4:3-4
But if our gospel be hid, it is hid to them that are lost:
4In whom the god of this world hath
blinded the minds of them which believe not, lest the
light of the glorious gospel of Christ, who is the image of God,
should shine unto them. (KJV)

Satan causes fear &
makes people terrified in circumstances of life.
Philippians 1:28
And in nothing terrified by your
adversaries: which is to them an evident token of
perdition, but to you of salvation, and that of God. (KJV)
1 John 4:18
There is no fear in love;
but perfect love casteth out fear: because fear hath torment.
He that feareth is not made perfect in love. (KJV)
1 Peter 3:14-15
But and if ye suffer for righteousness' sake, happy [are
ye]: and be not afraid of their terror,
neither be troubled;
15But sanctify the Lord God in your hearts: and [be] ready
always to [give] an answer to every man that asketh you a reason of
the hope that is in you with meekness and fear: (KJV)

One of satan's most
powerful weapons is the fear of physical death.
Hebrews 2:14-15
Forasmuch then as the children are partakers of flesh and
blood, he also himself likewise took part of the same; that through
death he might destroy him that had the power of death, that is, the
devil; 15And deliver them who through fear of death were
all their lifetime subject to bondage. (KJV)
Psalm 55:4-5
My heart is sore pained within me: and the terrors of death
are fallen upon me. 5Fearfulness and trembling are come
upon me, and horror hath overwhelmed me. (KJV)

Satan can fill the
heart of one to lie, even professing Christians!
Acts 5:3
But Peter said, Ananias, why hath
Satan filled thine heart to lie to the Holy Ghost, and to
keep back [part] of the price of the land? (KJV)

Unforgiveness &
bitterness allows satan to gain
advantage of people.
2 Corinthians 2:10-11
To whom ye forgive any thing, I [forgive] also: for if I
forgave any thing, to whom I forgave [it], for your sakes [forgave I
it] in the person of Christ; 11Lest
Satan should get an advantage of us: for we are not ignorant of his
devices. (KJV)

Satan hinders
one from doing the will of the LORD.
1 Thessalonians 2:18
Wherefore we would have come unto you, even I Paul, once
and again; but Satan hindered us.

A messenger of satan
was allowed to buffet
Paul to keep him humble.
2 Corinthians 12:7
And lest I should be exalted above measure through the
abundance of the revelations, there was given to me a thorn in the
flesh, the messenger of Satan to
buffet me, lest I
should be exalted above measure.
buffet = to rap with the fist. {They did this to Christ.
Mark 14:65} |

Satan uses
unfulfilled sexual needs and idleness to get people to
turn aside from the right way.
1 Timothy 5:13-15
And withal they learn [to be] idle, wandering about from
house to house; and not only idle, but
tattlers also and busybodies, speaking things which they
ought not. 14I will therefore that the younger women
marry, bear children, guide the house, give none occasion to the
adversary to speak reproachfully. 15For
some are already turned aside after Satan. (KJV)

Just as one can know the
deep spiritual things of the LORD, so can one also delve into the
deep things of satan.
depth = bathos (bath'os) = profundity;
extent; deep things; fig. = mysteries.
Revelation 2:24 But unto you I
say, and unto the rest in Thyatira, as many as have not this
doctrine, and which have not known the
depths of Satan, as they speak; I will put upon you none
other burden. (KJV)

Satan can possess and control those who are
willing.
Luke 22:3-4
Then entered Satan into Judas
surnamed Iscariot, being of the number of the twelve. 4And
he went his way, and communed with the chief priests and captains,
how he might betray him unto them. (KJV)
2 Timothy 2:25-26
Those who oppose him (= God's servants) he must gently
instruct, in the hope that God will grant them repentance leading
them to a knowledge of the truth, 26and that they will
come to their senses and escape from the
trap of the devil, who has taken them captive to do his will.

Satan depletes the
spiritual strength of the child of God. He does this by
vexation, frustration, depression,
failure. low self esteem, anxiety & rush.
vexation
= G - kataponeo (kat-ap-on-eh'-o) = to oppress; wear down
with toil & pain; vex; make trouble for; treat roughly;exhaust with
labor; afflict or oppress with evils. Used only
2 times.
= G - basanizo
(bas-an-id'-zo)=to torture; torment; toss; vex; pain; toil;
to test metals by rubbing for friction; irritate; to question by
applying torture; to vex with grievous pains of body or mind; to
distress; harass; used of those at sea who struggle with head winds.
Both of the above words are used in.......
2 Peter 2:7-8
And delivered just Lot, vexed with the filthy conversation of
the wicked: 8(For that righteous man dwelling among them,
in seeing and hearing, vexed
[his] righteous soul from day to day with [their] unlawful deeds;) (KJV)
In the last days, the last
world ruler will establish conditions
so that the child of God will be worn down
mentally (= what the Hebrew word means).
Daniel 7:25
And he shall speak [great] words against the most High, and
shall wear out the saints of the
most High, and think to change times and laws: and they
shall be given into his hand until a time and times and the dividing
of time.
Revelation 13:7
And it was given unto him to make
war with the saints, and to overcome
them: and power was given him over
all kindreds, and tongues, and nations. (KJV)
Revelation 11:7-8
And when they shall have finished their testimony, the
beast that ascendeth out of the bottomless pit shall
make war against them, and shall overcome
them, and kill them.
8And their dead bodies [shall lie] in the street of the
great city, which spiritually is called Sodom and Egypt,
where also our Lord was crucified. =(Jerusalem)
sore-grievously
(vexed) = kakos (kak-oce')= a miserable condition
one possesses; To experience a sensation or impression(usually
painful); note: one can go from great joy to deep sadness or
depression in a minute by what is impressed upon his mind. This
causes one to be discouraged, become deluded, and be in despair.
Matthew 15:22
And, behold, a woman of Canaan came out of the same coasts, and cried
unto him, saying, Have mercy on me, O Lord, [thou] Son of David; my
daughter is grievously vexed
with a devil.
= (demon)
Matthew 17:15
Lord, have mercy on my son: for he is lunatick, and
sore vexed:
for ofttimes he falleth into the fire, and oft into the water. (KJV)
Vexed = G – ochleo
(okh-leh'-o)= to excite a mob against; harass; disturb; to
molest; be in an uproar. (used only
2 times, given below: Note: this
word used with unclean spirits.)
(multitudes came to be healed from diseases)...
Luke 6:18-19
And they that were vexed with
unclean spirits: and they were healed. 19And
the whole multitude sought to touch him: for there went virtue
out of him, and healed [them] all.
virtue = the Greek word, "dunamis," = enabling spiritual
strength. This was depleted in
the early Church as they preached & healed and they were "filled
again" many times.
Peter also healed those vexed:......
Acts 5:16
There came also a multitude [out] of the cities round about
unto Jerusalem, bringing sick folks, and them which were
vexed with unclean spirits: and
they were healed every one. (KJV)
